Coversure Insurance Services of Swindon offer insurance for valeters

Public Liability Insurance – whilst Public Liability Insurance isn’t a compulsory legal requirement, a professional Valeter should have cover in place in the event that a member of the public suffers injury or damage to their person or property as a result of the Valeter’s negligence. Always ask if a Valeter is insured and, if you so require, they should be able to provide you with proof of their insurance cover. It is important to understand that most Public Liability policies do not provide cover for the customer’s car they are valeting as, not only is obtaining this cover very expensive, it is expected that a professional Valeter will have a good degree of knowledge and use professional products, therefore damage of this nature should not occur.

Motor Trade Insurance - You should never permit a Valeter to drive your vehicle (i.e. for collection & delivery or moving your car to a more appropriate location to be valeted) unless they have a Motor Trade Road Risks insurance in force which will cover the Valeter to drive your vehicle whilst it is in their possession for valeting purposes. Again they should be able to provide you with proof of their insurance if required. This insurance will provide the legal liability against damage or injury to persons and/or property whilst driving your car and, if they have Comprehensive cover under their Motor Trade policy, will also cover loss or damage to your car. Some Motor Trade policies exclude certain types of vehicles and some have a maximum value limit in respect of customer’s cars. Therefore, It is important to check with the Valeter that their cover is sufficient for your car, especially if you have a prestige, classic or performance car.
