First to appear in our new feature is Phil from Value Valeting in Brighton, his valeting tale just shows that valeters can do so much more than merely wash and vacuum your car!
Hobbies: Used to be playing rugby, but I've retired 3 times (so far...) Reading pulp paperbacks
How I started Valeting: Having been an I.T. contractor in London for 10 years, I just reached the end of my tether and wanted to do something different "outside"
Favourite Car to Valet and why: Volkswagen Passat - good quality build and materials - makes them a nice easy job to do Aston Martin Vanquish - as above, but also everything about them screams 6 numbers on Saturday and I'm yours...
Worst Car to valet and why: Nissans & any other car with cheap "velcro" carpets
Is there any vehicle you haven't valeted which you would like to? Formula one car
Valeting Tale: Without a doubt the worst job (so far) was a school Minibus. Vandalised on the Friday night of the end of May bank holiday weekend, found on the Tuesday morning. It had been vandalised with approximately 12 pints of Milk that got left over a hot sunny bank holiday weekend. The little darlings had chucked this milk everywhere - over all the seats, down the dashboard, all over the floor - absolutely everywhere! Took 2 of us a full day to tackle it - dashboard had to come out, door panels had to come off, the seats had to be shampooed 3 times. It was one of the foulest jobs I have ever had to do.
What would you not leave for work without? Phone and Diary!
What changes would you like to see in the valeting industry? Getting rid of the cowboy image by presenting a more professional attitude
How I started Valeting: I have always had a passion for preparing vehicles for friends and family, so when I was offered redundancy from a haulage company 5 years ago, it seemed like a natural progression. I just wished I'd thought of it 18 years ago
Favourite car to Valet: Any Porsche because I adore them
Worst car to Valet: Vauxhall Zafira because they are usually used as a taxi for the school runs and are more often than not abused inside plus the combination of crisps and synthetic carpets, no thank you
Any vehicle I haven't Valeted that I would like to: Lamborghini Murcie'lago or Aston Martin Vanquish
Valeting Tale: I once did a full valet on a Mercedes ML that the careless lady customer had bashed a few times and most of the exterior trim and mirrors had been wrapped in Sellotape to hold them on, so she told me to "just work round it"
What would you not leave for work without: Red Bull, diary, telephone and of course my van
What changes would you like to see in the Valeting Industry: A governing body and for the public not to have the pre-conception that we are just a sponge and bucket car-washer
How I started Valeting: I got made redundant from the hoisery trade (making tights) 10 years ago and could not find another job. I had always loved spending hours cleaning my own and family's cars, so I decided to start my own valeting company. I have been working for 9 years and still love cleaning all sorts of vehicles.
Favourite Car to Valet: I love cleaning my Peugeot 307 because I valet it every weekend, so it doesn't take long to do. It's 4 years old and looks better than when I bought it!

What changes would you like to see in the valeting industry? It would be nice for the public to realise that professionally valeting a car takes more than an hour, is hard work and cannot be done for a couple of quid!
How I started Valeting: Had valeting work experience at school and after training in electrical engineering and working for a motor factors company and a valeting company, decided to go self employed in April 2004
Favourite Car to Valet: Any top end sports car, Mercedes SL for example, their quality makes them easy to valet
Worst Car to valet and why: Older style cars with poor quality carpets as everything sticks to them, also 2 door cars with no room to get inside to valet properly
Is there any vehicle you haven't valeted which you would like to? Lotus Esprit Series 4 Turbo
Valeting Tale: The worst car I've valeted was a 3 month old Range Rover Sport. When I folded down the back seat to vaccuum under it, there were loads of shotgun cartridges, dog hair and feathers.

SWINDON
Dave from Spotless Valeting in Swindon, goes to extremes to valet the dirtiest of vehicles!
How I started Valeting: I worked in hydraulics manufacturing for 11 years and felt a change was on the horizon. As i spend so much time cleaning my own car it only seemed natural to start my own valeting business.
Favourite Car to Valet and why: Aston Martin - Because they exude quality and are so easy to work with
Worst Car to valet and why: Bottom of the range Fords, Vauxhalls and VWs etc, because the interiors are usually very low quality and the carpets are like velcro

Valeting Tale: A few months back a chap asked me to valet his jeep cherokee, he said he wanted to sell it and it was a bit of a mess. BIG understatement the exterior was absolutely filthy (tar, mud, scrapes and scratches, you name it) the interior looked like a skip with a steering wheel you couldn't see the carpets at all. What I found in and under all the pockets, glove box and seats could have stocked a small shop. It took me nearly 2 days and every tool and chemical in my van to finish the job.
What would you not leave for work without? Mobile, diary and Sat Nav
What changes would you like to see in the valeting industry? Try and make the public realise that valeting is a profession rather than just a bucket and sponge and a hoover.
